Ain’t She A SXA One?

You know the feeling that you are too much of an Aviation Geek for your own good? Had an attack of that this morning as “Southern Cross 904” taxiied past my desk.

Why did that make me feel like a big Aviation Geek? Well it’s because this aircraft had been on the ground for a couple days behind a building where all I could see was two propeller tips and a few feet of wingtip. From only seeing that in my head I thought to myself “Betcha that’s an ATR…”

Sad or impressive? I’ll leave that to you to decide. But I digress…

N498AT is an 1997 ATR-72-212A (s/n 498) formerly of American EagleĀ Airlines and is being ferried by Southern Cross Aviation.

After hearing the Southern Cross callsign a number of times passing through here, I decided to look a little closer into it as the moniker has been attached to a wide variety of aircraft.

Turns out Southern Cross is a company that specializes in ferrying aircraft, flight testing and training based out of Oregon and the Netherlands.

I’ll be looking forward to what else they bring through here in the future!
